THE MINT MUSEUM COVETED COUTURE GALA

Last night I had the pleasure of attending the annual Mint Museum’s Coveted Couture Gala.

The museum’s Randolph location is home to many fashion exhibits here in Charlotte. Each year the museum hosts this fundraising gala to support their many different exhibitions, programs, and arts education for children. It also served as the official closing celebration for African -Print Fashion Now! A Story of Taste, Globalization, and Style.

I am truly not a bold print person, but there were a few ladies who were able to wear the vibrant and colorful African prints well. For my look, I wanted to pull from the royalty of Africa and use gold brocade and emerald green…something that wasn’t too literal.

Since Keishawn wasn’t able to attend, my date for the night was “Charlotte Style Guy” and Editor-In-Chief of Charlotte Living Magazine - Hade Robinson.

I must talk about Rent the Runway for a second. I know a few people who use the service quite often, but I have never used it before. I searched Rent the Runway high and low weeks before this event in search for the perfect dress, but I didn’t find any evening wear that was available to my zip code during the time I needed. I found my dress at Nordstrom; this MacDuggal gown was just what I was looking for.

When I was looking for an earring to pair with my dress, I came across the Elizabeth Cole beauties above on Nordstrom’s website, but to my dismay they were sold out. Now, because I work there, I could have easily taken a few extra steps to see if the inventory levels were wrong, but I just didn’t feel like it. I went straight to Rent the Runway, and I was ecstatic to find the same earring available to rent and they were only $18!!!! The earrings retail for about $112. I’d say that was a deal! From that experience, I think I will most definitely use RTR again!

Looking forward to my next event!!! It’s gala season :)
