Styling Tip: The Boyfriend Shirt

We all have that one basic item in our wardrobe that we love and adore. But don’t you wish you knew more non-basic ways to wear it. No? Good for you! But if you need a little help, I’ve got you. Let’s talk about the boyfriend shirt or oversized button down, for example. Literally the best layering item that everyone should own. White shirts are not created equal and they are all different, but what if you don’t want a multitude of white shirts in your closet like me…you get yourself one that can take you a long way.

In this post, I’m going to show you how to utilize the same three items to create a capsule of go to looks centered around the boyfriend shirt. You will achieve this by adding or subtracting pieces & changing the shoes and accessories.

Layering is key! Layer the button down underneath your sweaters for an easy update…this isn’t new or grounbreaking, BUT because your shirt is a little bigger in size you will have extra fabric. Be sure to push up your sleeves and “vent” the bottom of the shirt by unbuttoning a few buttons. This gives your look a bit more edge.

The best thing about oversized button downs and boyfriend shirts, they cover your tail! Lol So, yes girl. Wear that shirt as a dress, and layer your sweater/vest/jacket on top! Just remember to button that bottom “vent”.

I hope that you found these styling tips helpful and can incorporate them into your wardrobe planning!
